SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Cocopah Tribal Council made the decision Monday to temporarily close the resort due to coronavirus concerns.

While there are no confirmed coronavirus (COVID -19) cases among the casino's employees, officials say the move is in the best interest of the entire community.

'We believe that this rapidly evolving crisis demands strong proactive measures in order to mitigate risk and prevent further exposure.'

Effective March 24 at 2:00 a.m. Cocopah Casino will temporarily close its operations.

The only exception is the Triple 777 restaurant, which will remain open for take-out.

These measures will remain in effect until the Tribal Council determines it is safe to resume regular business.

The Cocopah Casino in Somerton will reopen Monday morning at 9 a.m.

Quechan Hotel Casino Yuma Az

On their website, casino officials say social distancing measures will be in place, including every other machine being turned off. Face coverings may be worn but will not be required.

Cocopah Casino Yuma Arizona

Casino officials will limit the number of guests in the casino. The Cocopah’s restaurant, lounge and table games will reopen at a later date.

The Cocopah Casino closed March 24 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Paradise Casino Yuma

Officials with the Paradise Casino in Yuma and Quechan Casino Resort in Winterhaven say those casinos will reopen soon but have not announced a new date.
